The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Reykjavik and continues west towards the Snaefellsness peninsula, following a scenic route of dramatic landscapes. We will make a short stop in Borgarnes for refreshments, allowing you to pick up supplies for the day ahead.
We’ll drive to the northern coast of Snaefellsnes, where we’ll come across a spectacular lava field named Berserkjahraun. According to Viking legends, this is the place where two Swedish “berserkers” forged Iceland’s first road, which went over to the south side of the peninsula through a highland pass.
Then, we’ll travel through an area surrounded by breathtaking mountains. The site is home to one of the most photographed iconic landmarks in Iceland, Kirkjufell Mountain. This symmetrical mountain towers 463 m (1519 ft) up from the shoreline, “church mount” is its name translated to English, and you can see why.
We’ll make a stop here and explore the two waterfalls named Kirkjufellsfossar. Don’t forget your camera on the bus – this is one of the most picturesque locations in Iceland!
